Q: What happens after I submit an application and a video?
A: Your package will be reviewed by a panel of judges to determine if you should be invited to compete in the Worldwide Talent Search. If selected, Air Force Entertainment will contact your commander to get authorization for you to attend the competition. Your commander will inform you that you have been selected. Once that happens, Air Force Entertainment will provide you with all the information you need to come to Lackland AFB for the competition.
Q: How do I get to Lackland AFB to compete for WWTS?
A: Air Force Entertainment will arrange and pay for your transportation to and from the competition.
Q: Am I on TDY status during the competition?
A: No, you will be on Permissive TDY. Your lodging will be provided for you and you will receive a Personal Maintenance Expense Allowance of eight dollars a day while you are at the competition.
Q: Do I have to win at the competition to be selected for Tops In Blue?
A: No. In fact, since there is only a First and Second Place winner in each category, most of the performers selected for Tops In Blue will not have been winners at the Worldwide Talent Search competition. A number of factors are considered when selecting members of the Tops In Blue team, and winning at the competition is not a guarantee of being selected for Tops In Blue.
Q: Do I have to go on tour with Tops In Blue to compete for Worldwide Talent Search competition?
A: One of the primary purposes of conducting the Worldwide Talent Search is to select members for the upcoming Tops In Blue tour. You may submit an application and video without making a commitment to be in Tops In Blue at that time. If you are selected from your application package to come to the Worldwide Talent Search competition, you will be asked if you intend to tour with Tops In Blue.
Q: Can a civilian or family member of a military member compete in the Worldwide Talent Search and be selected for Tops In Blue?
A: No. The Worldwide Talent Search and Tops In Blue are programs for active duty members of the Air Force.
Q: Can members of the Air Reserve Command (Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve) compete in the Worldwide Talent Search and join Tops In Blue?
A: Yes. If selected for Tops In Blue, Air Reserve Command (ARC) members can be placed on Active Duty for the duration of the Tops In Blue tour. If an ARC member is selected, the Air Force Entertainment staff will work with that member to get them placed on Active Duty.
Q. Do Technicians, Drivers, or Staff Members compete at the Worldwide Talent Search competition?
A: No. Technicians, Drivers, and Staff Members are brought to the competition for their skills to be evaluated for consideration to be on the Tops In Blue team.
